Premise, Assumptions and Challenge

Rotary International is an organization committed to doing good in the world in charitable, educational, and other avenues of community service. The Rotary Foundation is the flagship of this effort and serves as the repository and disperser of funds contributed by motivated Rotarians worldwide.

District 6970 Rotarians have overwhelmingly supported The Rotary Foundation, by being a leading District in fund raising activities every year.

District 6970 leadership has challenged that at a minimum every Rotarian in District 6970 should be a Sustaining Member of The Rotary Foundation, by contributing $100 annually to the Foundation. Many District Rotarians willingly contribute more each year.

District 6970 leadership has set into motion a new District 6970 program. The objectives of the The Paul Harris Society are to

  • Identify motivated Rotarians willing and able to increase their level of gifting
  • Provide information and education about the successes of The Rotary Foundation
  • Create appropriate club and/or public recognition (if desired)
  • Support the concept of role models and community leadership for worthy endeavors
  • Formalize a program specifically designed to appeal to those Rotarians whot want and can do more

The program assumes at least a third of Rotarians in District 6970 are extremely successful in their business or profession and they are prone to active financial support of those programs and causes which matter to them.  Often the only reason these Rotarians aren’t contributing more to The Rotary Foundation is that they haven’t been asked.

The Paul Harris Society is specifically designed so an individual donates a minimum of $1000 per year to The Rotary Foundation annual fund. In other words, this is a full Paul Harris Fellowship each year.  The Rotarian contributor can award this Paul Harris Fellowship to anyone he/she chooses, or simply grant the member's club the right to distribute those Recognition Points as the club desires.  Awarding of these Paul Harris Fellowships may be done at an annual club meeting focusing on work of the The Rotary Foundation or awarded at a regular meeting.
